Inspiration

An innate sensitivity to, and a tactile enjoyment of all organic materials (along with her Black Feet Native American ancestry) has culminated in a spontaneous creative energy manifesting itself as"Black Hawk Tribal Images".

Scattered about in her work-space are an abundance of what Madeline identifies as "organic gems". Here you will find bones, fur, horsehair, feather, deer skins, beads, shells, quills and antlers. She skillfully and painstakingly uses these items to integrate with her intrinsic awareness of the ancestors forming dynamic Native American manifestations.

Madeline states that, "during the creative process it seems that each doll-like figure communicates as to how it would like to be posed and just which way to be embellishment . My presence is only to facilitate the process". In this way, each figure develops into a spontaneous one-of-a-kind tribal expression.

Contemporary materials are now being introduced by Madeline. She currently brings her images into this era by breaking out of the traditional Indian expression to demonstrate that her Native American creativity can be progressive and provocative. By introducing contemporary materials, she at times, solicits unexpected feelings and reactions.
